summer homework brutalist architecture
For the first response to fragments i have chosen brualist architecture, a great example of this in London is the barbican, its a great example of this with its harsh concrete buildings and imposing design, however i also have 2 photos of a light house not because it has brutalist architecture but because of its brutal position in the way that its almost toppling into the water below.

I really like these images as they are crisp clean images though some are over exposed most ive got the balance of light correct, ive also used the rule of thirds in lots of these photos and balancing elements. These images meet my intentions because the brutalist architecture is overlooking the city creating a dark image.

Chris Killip (Photographer's Gallery)
Chris Killip photographed people in the north of England§. He wanted to document the lives of those affected by the economic downturn of the 70s and 80s.
Killip lived with the communities he photographed. He saw the togetherness of communities and the industries that sustained them. He stayed with them until he witnessed their loss . He described the people in the deindustrialised north as having had history done to them.

Half term homework
Anastasia Savinova , captures full images with a selection of images edited together to create one image. This relates to fragments as it is merging these images together in a fragmented was. In this task i was required to take a selection of photos of an area and then edit them to create a full image and capture the essence of the place.
WWW:good lighting and capture the essence of the place
EBI:do the edit to finish the piece

Simon Phipps is a photographer who photographs brutalist architecture He also often does black and white edits to make the pictures more brutalist and bleak. He takes photos of post war architecture and takes and different angles for brutalist photos.

In this task i was required to take photos of architecture within the school. I looked for straight lines and strong geometric shapes. I will develop this idea photos with taking photos at different locations and at different times of the day.
This image suited the theme as the acrcheteictue has brutal straight lines and and very straight bold lines. In this edit i have edited the photo to a black and white image to create a more brutalist photo and cropped out a portion of the left part of the photo as the window took away from the brutalist feel of the photo.
WWW:i managed the shutter speed well as i was holding the camera free hold therefore it was easy to have a shaky photo if i did not manage the shutter speed correctly
EBI: Next time I should go to a different location as i could not this week i had to take photos in school therefore i will next week go and take photos in a more optimal place , i could photograph at a different time of day to create a darker more brutalist architecture .Technically i could have the photo more straight on for the first edit.
In the second edit i have straightened the image to create a more level and strong edit.

Second Development
My intention was to respond to the theme brutalism because i wanted to explorer the ideas of strong lines and brutal architecture, i also enjoy taking photos of these brutalist and dark dystopian ideas of architecture.i also enjoyed taking photos of London architecture. For these photos i went along the canal down to the thames and he cycled eastwards along the thames docklands the docklands where i took quite a lot of the photos, and specifically my favourite photo which is the first edit.

WWW: My composition helped to support me response to the theme by creating strong geometrical lines. it was quite a dark day so i had to increase the shutter speed to make the image balanced and not too dark or bright.my images express my intentions which were to capture brutal geometric lines and brutalist lines
EBI: while the subject was quite dark and brutal the actual buildings were not 'brutalist buildings' so next time go to a different location and photo classic brutalist buildings.

In this task i was required to take more brutalist photos this time i went to the barbican. This links closer to Simon Phipps and the strong the geometric lines create a brutalist effect

WWW:The subject i choose to photograph suited the theme as the tall buildings are every bleak and brutalist and have lots of harsh angles i managed the shutter speed generally well as it was quite a bright day.My images express my intentions which were
EBI:Some part of the photo are over exposed for when i was looking up at the sun and it was very difficult to manage the exposure, but generally it wasn't a problem. For my next set of photos i am going to focus on close up concrete structures as they are very brutal and strong powerful images.

Fourth Development
In this task i was required to take more photos linked to the brutalist theme. They linked to theme as the materials of hard brick and metal is very rough and dark and creates a strong image. And for this set i went to my nearby area.
WWW:The composition helped to support my response to theme as i captured the whole buildings and focused on the type of materials and design of the buildings.Overall i managed the shutter speed quite well and tried too achieve a mixture of darker and lighter images in the set of photos. My images expressed my intentions of rough quite brutal buildings with lots of added parts of architecture for interest.
EBI: Next time i should g to a different location within more variation within the buildings, so i can achieve different compositions. Therefore next time i will go to a different location in more central London for different photos and composition for my brutalist final development.

In this task my images have influenced by Simon Phipps and therefore i went to Alexandra and Ainsworth estate, to take these photos inspired by him.
He creates brutalist images, he does this by using harsh concrete structures, he wants us to consider the brutalism of the photos and places. This creates a cruel brutalist mages of concrete and brutalist buildings primarily built post world war 2 in the 60s.

Screen shots
WWW:The subject i chose to photograph suited he theme as the brutalist architecture helped with my theme as the inspiration fro m Simon Phipps, i heavily prioritised shutter speed as the lighting was inconsistent as i was taking pictures from different angles therefore i had to constantly being adjusting the shutter speed and exposure. My images express the intentions which were to take photos inspired by Simon Phipps's brutalist architecture work this sis because of the place i too photos and my editing to different variations of black and white.
EBI: Next time i will use a tripod as use different shutter speeds to get more exposure made some of the photos have a bit of motion blur.
